Songs for Christmas, #9: “Three Wise Men”

Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, Morazzone, Lombard; The Adoration of the Magi; c. 1600; via the National Gallery of Art; open access

“Three Wise Men”

Three wise men
in search of a star,
three wise men
willing to go far,
through desert sands,
through various lands,
ever pressing on
in search of a son.

Three wise men
bowed on the floor,
three wise men,
our gifts before
the Savior’s feet,
our offering here,
the best we could bring,
in search of a Son.

Three wise men
weary and worn,
three wise men
braved Herod’s court.
He told us find
and bring him word,
yet, we dared not betray,
in search of the Son.
